Year of Establishment: 1968

Psychology was introduced as a course of study in Arts in the year 1968 to facilitate local students of the West Bengal-Jharkhand border region to pursue this subject. The psychology department is one of the oldest departments of the college and is most popular among the students for their choice of subjects. Several highly qualified & distinguished faculties have provided their services to the department down the line since its inception. Currently, the department is led by Dr. Anjali Kumari, Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, as the Head of the Department.

Psychology department have been the part of the college since its establishment. In vague of the fact that mental health of an individual is as much important as the physical health, the department has been set to impart the understanding of psychology to the students. Students are equipped with theoretical as well as practical knowledge of the same as both are indispensible part of the course. Department is equipped with adequate books, journals and testing equipments for the students to benefit from them. The course enables the graduate to attain base knowledge of the field including key concept and principle of psychology, working principle and applications and scientific reason to interpret psychological phenomena. The students after graduating the course demonstrates psychology literacy with due consideration to the ethical principles of the field. Department is also involved with due contribution towards the society by setting up an online counselling session which was started during the Covid-19 pandemic.
